Carling Cup Round Fourth Review

Frank Lampard got the winner to complete a hat-trick as holders Chelsea survived an almighty scare to beat Leicester City 4-3 in stoppage-time and reach this season's quarter-finals.

Arsenal's latest batch of young Gunners cruised into the last eight with a 3-0 win at Sheffield United. Last season's runners-up were comfortable victors at Bramall Lane thanks to Eduardo da Silva's brilliant double and a deflected third from Denilson.

Blackburn Rovers racked up a seventh straight win in all competitions thanks to a 2-1 victory at Portsmouth. Benni McCarthy opened the scoring before feeding Morten Gamst Pedersen for number two. Kanu pulled one back in stoppage-time for Pompey but it was too late.

Juande Ramos' first game in charge of Tottenham Hotspur ended in a win as Blackpool were beaten 2-0 at White Hart Lane. Robbie Keane lifted Dimitar Berbatov's flick over Paul Rachubka and Pascal Chimbonda's header back across goal sealed a comfortable home win.

Liverpool sealed a 2-1 win over Cardiff City as Nabil El Zhar marked his first Reds start with a debut goal for the club only for Darren Purse's header to level matters. But Steven Gerrard, making a surprise start, scored the winner.

Manchester City are through to the next round thanks to Elano's late penalty at Bolton Wanderers. The in-form Brazilian sealed a 1-0 win after Lubomir Michalik was adjudged to have handled.

Luton Town's game with Everton went to extra-time and the Toffees narrowly ensured there were no upsets thanks to Tim Cahill's extra-time winner at Kenilworth Road.
